Connecticut Governor. He graduated from Yale University in 1858, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1856, and entered politics. He was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives (1856, 1876, 1870, 1880-1881) and a member of the Connecticut Senate (1874 to 1876). He also was the Connecticut State Probate Judge (1857 to 1863). In 1893, he was elected as a Democrat to be the 55th Connecticut Governor. While in office, he advocated for constitutional amendments in the election laws but failed to get the appropriate legislation passed. Not seeking reelection, he practiced law and was president of the Connecticut Savings Bank of New Haven until his death from a stroke.
