Mrs. Anna Hoge Ely, wife of W. P. Ely, of West Franklin street, Waynesburg, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 1949, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John W. Knox, Rockville Centre, Long Island, N. Y. She had been ill since last October when she fractured her hip in a fall, and had been seriously ill the last three weeks. She had been at her daughter's home since December.
Mrs. Ely was born Oct. 15, 1873, at Oak Forest, a daughter of the late John and Sarah Donahue Hoge, and had spent all her life in Greene County.
She attended Waynesburg College and for seven years taught school in the county. On Oct. 28, 1902, she was united in marriage with W. P. Ely, who survives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesburg, and of the Pleasant Hour Club.
Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. John W. Knox, Rockville Centre, Long Island, N. Y.; one son, J. P. Ely, of McKeesport; seven grandchildren; a half-brother, Moyne G. Hoge, of Chicago; and two half-sisters, Mrs. George F. Heger and Mrs. Mayne Winnemore, both of Chicago.
