Obituary for Anita Greenwood

Anita Florence Elmer-Greenwood, 94, formerly of Maribel, passed away June 28, 2013 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc.

She was born October 3, 1918, to the late Henry and Anna Lodel-Elmer. She was the youngest of three children. Anitas mother died when she was two months old.

Her extended family members raised her, especially her Uncle Casper and Aunt Emma Shaden.

Interestingly enough, it was only at age 65 that she found out her birth name was actually Amelia.

Anita married Norbert Greenwood on October 12, 1940 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville.

They moved from Two Rivers to Maribel in 1954. They owned and operated Greenwoods Bar until January of 1995 when their daughter and son-in-law took over.

Anita enjoyed meeting new people and visiting with them. She was an animal lover, especially cats. She was a Gold Star Mother, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Christian Mothers Altar Society, and a member of St. James Catholic Parish in Cooperstown, where she was the oldest member. Her faith was powerful and she spent most of her free time in prayer and reflection. Anita always had a smile and a hug for anyone she knew. Elvis Presley was the apple of her eye, outside of her husband Norbert. Her grandchildren were her world and she would brag about her Ann Marie and Michael John whenever she had the chance

Surviving are her daughter, Shirley (Clarence Butch) Schneider; and grandchildren, Ann (Kyle) Habeck and Michael (Johanna) Schneider. She is further survived by her sister, Sr. Kay Elmer; her brother, John (Maxine) Elmer; and sisters-in-law, Marion Birdsey, LouAnn Greenwood, and Peggy Greenwood; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends

She was preceded in by her husband, Norbert; her son, Bruce; her parents; her step-mother, Catherine Elmer; brothers, Wencil and Alvin; and step-brother, Ralph Christel.

Friends of Anita Greenwood may call at St. James Catholic Church, 18228 County Rd R, Cooperstown, on Monday, July 1, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Ron Columbo officiating. Cotter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Denmark is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed to Anitas family at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

The family would like to thank the third floor staff of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center for the compassionate and exceptional care of their mother and grandmother. Anita was a blessing and a truly kind-hearted person. She will be missed by all who knew her.
