Roman Catholic Cardinal. Born in Senigallia, Domenico Consolini came from a noble family, the marquises of Consolini. After receiving his initial studies in his birthplace, he moved to Rome entering the Pontifical Academy of Ecclesiastical Nobles in 1830. Joining the Roman prelature December 20, 1832 as domestic prelate of His Holiness, referendary and protonotary apostolic, Consolini served as relator of the Sacred Congregation of Good Government between 1833 and 1834, when he was named first assessor of the criminal tribunal of the Apostolic Chamber. Adjunct prelate of the Sacred Congregation of the Council, he acted as apostolic delegate in Camerino between 1835 and 1837 and successively served the same office in Fermo from 1838 until 1842. Auditor of the Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature of Justice from 1843 until 1847, he was named once again apostolic delegate, this time in Perugia, towards the end of 1846. Vice-president of the Council of State from December 1850 until 1866, Consolini, was never ordained a priest, was created cardinal deacon in the consistory of June 22, 1866 with the deaconry of Santa Maria in Domnica by Pope Pius IX. Prefect of the Economat of the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda Fide and of the Chamber of Despoilments from 1867 until 1877, Consolini went on the serve furthermore as archchancellor of the Roman University and camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church from March 1884 until his death in December that year. Originally buried at the Campo Verano Cemetery, at a later date, the Countess Marcolini Solustri took his bones to his native Senigallia and had them re-interred in the local cemetery.
