Julia Ann Jones graduated at New London Literary and Scientific Institution (now Colby Academy)in 1861, as valedictorian of her class. She was class historian two years later. For some time she was principal of the Rumford Grammar School in Concord, New Hampshire. She has been frequently invited to speak before women's clubs and teachers' associations, and has met with very flattering success in that line. She has traveled extensively, has resided in Washington, D.C.; in Brooklyn, New York; and Englewood, New Jersey.
