Before marriage she worked at the Box Factory, Parkersburg, WV the Tip Top Decorating shop, Pennsboro, WV, and later at Myles Manufacturing in the garment industry in Pennsboro and helped on the family farm. Opal was a member of the Pennsboro Church of Christ and the Ritchie County Farm Bureau.
