U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Fryeburg Academy, in 1814, studied medicine, then began to practice medicine in Rochester, New Hampshire in 1818 and was a member of the New Hampshire Medical Society. Entering politics, he served as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, (1828-31) and was a member of the New Hampshire Senate, in 1836. In 1837, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. After leaving Congress, he organized the Rochester Bank, was appointed one of the trustees of the New Hampshire Insane Asylum, in 1845 and resumed the practice of medicine until his death at age 68.
