U.S. Congressman. He moved to Bloom Township, Ohio, in 1810 and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was justice of the peace, (1821, 24, 27) trustee of Bloom Township for twenty-three years and served as a Colonel in the Ohio State Militia. In addition, he was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1828-30) and a associate judge of Fairfield County in 1831. In 1833, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses and as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. After his term, he was again a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives in 1842, served in the Ohio State Senate, (1844-45) and a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives in 1855. He also was the great-grandfather of actor Lon Chaney and the great-great-grandfather of actor Lon Chaney Jr.
