Hollywood Film Figure. He was an American motion picture special effects artist from 1927 to 1951. Born Ned Herbert Mann, he entered the film industry in 1920 but did not begin his special effects until 1927. For six years, he was employed by Sir Alexander Korda's London Films at Denham Studios in London. He was credited with at least 22 films. His most famous were "Knight Without Armor" made in England in 1937, "Deluge" made in England in 1933 and as technical advisor, "Holiday in Spain" made in England in 1960. He also was a technical director on several other films. In the 1937 watercolor and pencil work of caricaturist artist Anthony Wysard, "Diners at Denham Studios Restaurant," Mann can be seen at table number nine. The piece is on display at the National Gallery in London.
