U.S. Congressman. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, during World War I he served as a Second Lieutenant in the 20th Infantry, US Army and remained active in the Officers’ Reserve Corps, obtaining the rank of Major. After War, he graduated from Duquesne University Law School in 1925, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, (1935-36). In 1937, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fifth Congress and to the next ten succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 66.
