Owen S. Allbritton III, 82, died June 3, 2009. He was a 4th – generation Floridian and was preceded in death by his brother Bill. A 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Clearwater, he graduated from Clearwater High School and enlisted in the Navy and served 3 ½ years as a carrier pilot in World War II. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Peggy, two sons David (Maryhelen)and Steve (Cindy) , two daughters Patricia (Roger), and Mary (Paul); 10 grandchildren, grandsons Justin, Roger, Steve, Christopher, Austin, Kyle and John, and granddaughters Jenny, Aleece and Hayley; and one great-granddaughter, Lauren.

A devout "Bull Gator", he earned his J.D. at the University of Florida in 1951. There he was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Honorary Legal Fraternity. He practiced law in Clearwater for over 30 years with various partners Charles Barber, Jack White and Leon Whitehurst. He served as Clearwater assistant City Attorney and Prosecutor and City Judge of Clearwater. While serving as Clearwater City Judge, the American Bar Association awarded his court its national first place award for cities in Clearwater's population bracket for outstanding accomplishment in traffic court administration and procedure. In 1984 he was elected Circuit Court Judge of the 6th Judicial Circuit. He retired from the Circuit Court bench in 1997, after which he served as Senior Judge until 2004.

He was among the first members of the Belleair Country Club, a 50-year member and Commodore of the Carlouel Yacht Club, a member and past president of the Casado Club, member and past president of the Clearwater Touchdown Club, past Skipper and member of Privateers, and President and member of the Florida Municipal Judge's Association. He was General Chairman of Clearwater's Fun and Sun Festival for two terms and the city awarded him with the City Medal for his service. He was District Vice Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, the first "Boss of the Year" of the Clearwater Chapter of Professional Secretaries International, a member of Clearwater Kiwanis Club, Charter Member of Springtime City Kiwanis Club, and was a member of the Elks and the American Legion.
