Our mother, grandma and great grandma, Joyce, passed away on April 9, 2014 at Bayside Village in L’Anse, Michigan where she had been a resident since December 2013.

She was born on April 16, 1920 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Perle and Vida Oxford. The family moved to Grand Rapids, MI when she was quite young. She later married Walter Palasek on April 25, 1942 and resided in Grand Rapids.

Walt and Joyce traveled to Desert Hot Springs, CA every year until Walt’s death in 2001. She then moved there permanently until December 2010. She again resided in Grand Rapids until she moved up to the U.P. to spend some time with her “Yooper” family. Joyce was a writer and wrote a book for her Great Grandchildren to enjoy about her beloved Yorkie, Crickett. She was so proud of her book and shared it with everyone she met. She also enjoyed drawing and made hundreds of cards to give to family and friends. She was a compassionate, understanding and open-minded woman and helped many people through hard times.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Walter J. Palasek, her sisters Sue Russell and Theo Hall and her son in law Joe Sweeney.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Virginia) Palasek, Scott (Julie) Palasek, Grand Rapids and Lynne Sweeney from Elo, MI. Her grandchildren, Shannon Brodeur, Martha Leavitt, Denise (Mark) Schultz, Andrew Palasek, Kerry (Ryan) Burns, Michael (Melanie) Palasek, Tara (Jason) Heikkila and Joseph (Alanna) Sweeney and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lucy Brown, Claremont, CA, sister-in-laws Lee Palasek and Helen Palasek and many wonderful nieces and nephews and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Per her request cremation has taken place and there will be no service. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L’Anse is assisting the family.

Friends may sign her guest book or send condolences at www.jacobsonfuneralhome.com.
