Andrew was a farmer. Married " Mary Catherine Christy" 1855. The license confirmed that "Henry and Catherine" were his parents.

In 1860 Cencus they are in Monongalia Co., W.V. Andrew is 29 and Mary is 21. While Ellen (3) and Omer (1) had been born in VA.

Andrew joined the Union Army as a teamster on June 22, 1861 at age 31. He served as a wagoner from June 28, 1861 to Febuary 2, 1864. Mustered out expiration term of service Sept. 10, 1864. Enlisted as a Private in Company "A" 1st Regiment WV Cavalry. Did not advance.

Dec 16, 1865, after the war, AJ's father "Henry Sr." transferred 120 acres of land to his son. This property is now on the Evansdale Campus of WVU in the area near Ruby Memorial Hospital. There is a street named "Koontz" in the neighborhood.

By 1870 they still live in Morgan, Monongalia Co. and have 4 children.

In the 1880 cencus the Andrew (49) and wife Catherine (40) have only the 4 youngest listed with them. "Mary Helen" died young. The oldest 2 are out of the home. The war years accounts for a gap in the ages of the children since Andrew was enlisted for 4 years.

Then in 1900 only the two youngest boys, Charles & James (24 &21), are with them. Andrew died in 1907. Buried in "Mount Union Methodist Church Cemetery" or "Mount Union Cemetery".
