Lenora Backus Robertson Lenora Backus Robertson, 96, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, in The Villages, Fla. Lenora was born on Aug. 8, 1916, in Gad, W.Va. Her birthplace is now covered by the Summersville Lake. She was the daughter of Adam Gordon and Mary Selvy Backus. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arvid Lee Robertson; a son, Phillip Wayne Robertson, and brothers, Martin and Paul Backus. Lenora grew up in Oak Hill and Princeton, graduating from Princeton High School in 1934. Her family moved to Mullens, where she met and married Arvid Robertson. They had five children. Lenora was a church organist for over 50 years, playing at the First United Methodist and the First Presbyterian Churches. She also played piano for the Methodist Men's group and the local Rotary and Lions clubs. Survivors include two sons, David Lee Robertson and his wife, Connie, William Gordon Robertson and his wife, Katie; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Yates and her husband, Gary, and Sara Kay Rodgers and her husband, Scott;, and daughter-in-law, Edith Robertson; 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Mullens on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. There will be a graveside committal service at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist and First Presbyterian Churches of Mullens.
