Willie Rogers Gipson was born to the late General and Sallie Mae Gipson on December 20, 1946. He was the fifth child of nine children. He was preceded in death by siblings Carl Gipson, Eugene Gipson, Cynthia Gipson and sister-in-law Mary Gipson. Willie was educated in the Detroit Public School system and received his high school diploma from Northern High School in 1966.

At the early age of 10 years old, Willie accepted Christ and joined Greater New Mount Moriah Baptist Church. As a very active member of the church, Willie Joined the Mighty Voices of Thunder in 1964 and in 1982 was ordained as a Deacon. Willie would schedule his vacation time from work to coincide with Vacation Bible School so he could drive the church bus and the church's annual picnic. He counted this task as a privilege and was able to serve in this capacity for over 15 years. He was faithful, dependable and his word was his bond - you could always count on him. Unfortunately, he retired from both of these positions due to his declining health. Willie was an active member of the Tuesday Morning Bible Study Class. Willie absolutely loved Greater New Mount Moriah and was only absent from service when his health would not permit him to attend.

Willie's first love was Sheila Trice and from this relation their daughter, Angie Trice, was born. On May 12,1967, Willie was united in holy matrimony to Clorice Marsh and from this union two more daughters were conceived, Yolanda Laverne and Stacey Renee Gipson.

Willie served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Korea, from 1967 until 1969 and was honorably discharged for his service. Upon returning from the Army, Willie went to work for Sanders Bakery and was employed there for more than 20 years. Willie then went on to work for Burger King-Distron Corporation as a long-distance truck driver until he retired on a medical disability in 1996.

On December 26, 1992 at Greater New Mount Moriah, Willie Rogers Gipson and Alzada Tutti Henderson were united in holy matrimony.

Willie was an avid bowler, enjoyed professional baseball, listening to the blues, entertaining family and friends, traveling, and gardening.

Never known to rest on his laurels after retirement, Willie, affectionately known as Poppa, picked up the torch to be the ultimate caregiver, dedicating his time and energy towards his grandchildren - Alexa "Lexi" Trice, Madison "NuNu" Turner and London "Lenny Pooh" Randall. This role, which was assumed with pride, gave him immense pleasure and purpose. Willie's willingness to help a friend, family member or even a stranger was surpassed only by his love of Christ and his desire to do the will of his Heavenly Father.

On Saturday, April 12, 2014, Willie made his transition. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted wife Tutti, three daughters, Angie Trice, Yolanda Laverne and Stacey Renee, two stepdaughters, Donna Trovey Henderson and Kisha Romella Randall; his son-in-law Lanier Randall; one grandson, Jammarr Lee Hanes; two brothers, James Gipson and Ronald Gipson; three sister-in-laws,Betty Gipson, Lucille Johnson, and Olymphia Montgomery; three sisters, Brenda Anderson, Cherylene Roberson, and Wanda Bankston; four brother-in-laws, Whirlington Anderson, Curtis Roberson, John Adams, and Jerome Adams; his best friends, Sabina Clark, Walter Robbins, Roosevelt "Mickey" Gipson;and many, many nephews, nieces, family and friends.
