WILLIAMS, JAMES GLENN
James Glenn Williams was born in 1834 and died August 13, 1903, aged 69 years and 4 months. In 1854 Mr. Williams was baptized by Rev. Samuel Miles into the fellowship of Zion Baptist church. In January 1856, he was married to Miss Matilda Knapp and to this union, which continued for 47 years, there were born five sons and three daughters: Austin of Grampian; Julia McNeil of Altoona; David, of Rampart City, Alaska; Chauncy, of Goldfield, Colorado; Mary Thompson, of Woodland; John, Gazzam; Harriet and Blaine, at home. All the above were present at the funeral except David, in Alaska. There are also two surviving sisters, Mrs. Martha Henderson, of Waterman, Illinois, and Mrs. Eliza C. Bell, of Bower, and one brother, William, whose home was with the deceased. Few men in Jordan township had more or firmer friends than J. G. Williams. Funeral services were held at the home, near Gazzam, Saturday, August 15, conducted by E. E. Houck, a former pastor, and Rev. I. N. Gail, present pastor of Zion Baptist church. Relatives and friends were present from Altoona, Clearfield, Westover, LaJose, Utahville and the entire surrounding community, possibly over 500 persons in all. Interment in old Zion Cemetery. A good citizen, good husband, good father and a faithful and constant church member has been removed from us, but we believe our loss is his gain. (The editor of this paper desires to bear testimony to the excellent character of the deceased. Having had an acquaintance with Mr. Williams for 20 years, and having on several occasions enjoyed the hospitality of his home, we learned to admire the man. Honest, charitable, industrious; he died without an enemy – ED.)
