When Gladys was three years old, her family moved to their newly purchased farm seven miles west of Chico. However, since there were no roads out to the ranch when it came time for Gladys to start school she and her mom moved to Durham, and she lived there until she graduated from Durham High School.
After graduation she moved back to the ranch where she lived until four years ago. Before she got married she worked at Continental Nut, Diamond Match and at the Coon almond shelling plant.
Gladys married Harold Jones in 1946, and they both quit their jobs in town and began working along side her father on the family almond ranch. Gladys is survived by her husband of 58 years; one son, Ron Jones of Chico; grandsons Daryl Jones of Chico and Greg Jones of Sacramento; and two great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 23rd, at the family ranch, 9878 River Road in Chico. Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and condolences may sent online at www.nbcfh.com. Published in Chico Enterprise-Record on July 20, 2004
