MELLEN, Wis. — Lee Benton
Scribner, 97, Mellen, died Friday at Ashland, Wis. Born at Bangor, Me., Aug. 31,1886, he attended schools there. In 1916, he was married to the former Mabel Bissel at Bessemer. She died in 1959. In 1905 he moved to the Mellen area and was a self-employed logger. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. Surviving are four sons, Robert and Glen, Mellen, James, Mercer, and Harry, Ashland; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph Bidgood, Richmond, Calif., Emery Blakely, Ashland, Jack Bushaw, Beloit, Wis., and Lucille Cadotte, Solon Springs; 37 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren. Preceding in him death were one brother and nine sisters. The Rev. Kenneth Wheeler will conduct the funeral Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Novitzke Funeral Home, Mellen. Burial will be in Mellen Union Cemetery. The funeral home will open for visitation at 4 today and will be open Tuesday until service time.
