Michael was born in Canada before his parents came to the United States and settled in the New York area. Michael was living in Coral, Florida when he enlisted in the Marines 15 July 1968, at a Coral Recruiting Office.
Arriving in Vietnam 28 April 1968 Michael was assigned to 1st Platoon of Hotel Company, 2nd
Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. The battalion was participating in Operation Arlington Canyon and Hotel Company was 16 kilometers northwest of Ca Lu Airfield, when at approximately 0800H the Marines made contact with hostile forces. Michael died as a result of fragmentation wounds to head, face and left hand from a hostile grenade.
Survived by his parents, Ralph J and Helyn M Garlo of Charlotte Drive, Fishkill, New York.
