Former Archbishop of the Ukrainian Eparchy of Philadelphia, Metropolitan Ambrose Andrew Senyshyn was born in Staryi Sambir, Ukraine, and was ordained to the Priesthood through the Basilian monks on August 23, 1931. Appointed Auxiliary of Byzantine Rite Apostolic Exarchy of Philadelphia on July 6, 1942, he received his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Maina on the following October 22. Appointed Apostolic Exarch of Stamford, August 8, 1956 and later Eparch on November 1, 1958, Senyshyn was named Metropolitan Archbishop of Philadelphia on August 14, 1961. He died in office at the age of 73.
