He was the son of George W. Watson and Sarah Ann Callahan Watson.
On June 16, 1915 as Leroy Hugh Watson, he married Alice Virginia Furey at Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York.
They were the parents of four children including Margaretta Watson Gierszewicz (1921-2013).
On April 10, 1943 as Leroy H. Watson, he married Elizabeth Livingston at the rectory of St. Anne's Catholic Church in the District of Columbia.
Per her 1958 Certificate of Death, her marital status was Divorced. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1945.
Per The Daily Chronicle for DeKalb, Illinois published Thursday, December 26, 1946, he married Liba Besinova of Prague, Czechoslovakia at a Christmas night ceremony at the residence of United States Ambassador Laurence Steinhardt.
They were the parents of one child.
On August 9, 1950 as Leroy H. Watson, he married Beulah B. Beggs at Los Angeles, California.

He graduated from the Command and General Staff College in 1930 and the Army War College in 1934. During World War II He was the Commanding General of the 3rd Armored Division and the 79th Infantry Division in Europe. After the war he was the Commanding General of the Nuremburg Enclave and the War Crimes trials and later became the Chief of Civil Affairs, General Headquarters, Far East Command and then Commanding General of the Defense Advisory Group in Japan. He retired after 42 years in the United States Army. As a civilian he became Vice President of Fletcher Aircraft Corporation. He was active in civic affairs becoming a member of the Beverly Hills Council for eight years and was Mayor of Beverly Hills from 1962 to 1963. His first marriage was to Virginia Alice Furey who died in 1942. On April 10, 1943, he married Elizabeth Livingston in the rectory of St. Anne's Catholic Church in the District of Columbia. Survivors included his wife and daughter.
