Civil War Union Army Officer. Graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1854. While serving as a Lieutenant commanding a battery of the 2nd United States Regular Artillery, he was shot and killed at the Battle of Big Bethel, Virginia (June 10, 1861), the first land battle of the Civil War. This made him the first Army Officer to die in the conflict. Lieutenant Greble received posthumous brevets up to Lieutenant Colonel.
