Professional Football Player. A native of Laurel, Mississippi, he attended the R.H. Watkins High School in Laurel, Mississippi, the Coahama Junior College in Oklahoma, and Tennessee State University. The 6'1, and 215lbs, Shanks first played football for his school teams but then went professional in 1995 when he joined the Arizona Cardinals as a linebacker. In his lone season with the team he led in tackles with 27. He was shot by three gunmen at his home in Phoenix, Arizona, but died hours later at the Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 34.
