Kathleen M. Barta, age 67, of 9211 N. Lake Drive, Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, July 9, 2013 at her residence, following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 12, 1946 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Stanley and Viola (Neuser) Kattner. Kathy was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1964. On April 15, 1967 she married Mark D. Barta at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Kathy retired from Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Since their marriage in 1967, Kathy and Mark have set an extraordinary example of how to live as one. Kathy enjoyed spending time with family and friends on English Lake. She was very skilled at gardening, sewing and crafts. She thoroughly enjoyed her nine grandchildren and they adored her.

Kathy is the loving wife of Mark Barta, Manitowoc; and cherished mother of: Jeffrey M. (Melissa) Barta, New Berlin, Gregrey M. (Tiffany) Barta, Milwaukee, Michael M. (Jessica) Barta, Manitowoc, Marleen K. (Jesse) Wickizer, Madison. She is also devoted grandma of Isaac, Evelyn, Eli, Lauren, Elliot, Claire, Anna, Violet and Julia. She is further survived by one brother and sister-in-law: Robert & Joy Kattner, Port Washington; two sisters-in-law: Karen Brunner & her husband Ron, Florida, Marcia Zigmunt and her husband, Dennis, California; and a brother-in-law: Jerome Koeper, Milwaukee. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She is further preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Judeen Koeper and her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Bernice E. & Donald S. Barta.

Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Pleier. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends for a memorial visitation on Monday, July 15, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. led by Deacon Alan Boeldt. Friends may also call Tuesday morning at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home & All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Yetter, nurses (angels) and staff at Vince Lombardi Cancer Center, the Aurora Visiting Nurse and Hospice team (angels). Also, a special thank you to the extended family of caregivers. A special heartfelt thank you to family and friends for the overwhelming support and love throughout this whole journey. It has been an honor and privilege to see Kathleen to the end of her journey here on earth.
