Louis E. Stilen, age 81, formerly of Mellen, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Court Manor Health and Rehabilitation Services in Ashland. He was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Mellen, the son of Peter and Julia (Otto) Stilen.
Louis was born and raised in Mellen. He worked in the construction business and also as a heavy equipment operator in Beloit. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by a daughter, Helen (Ken) Anderson, Beloit; a son, Phillip Stilen, Janesville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Dewald, Beloit, and Lucille Parker; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland, with Fr. John Scheer officiating. Interment will take place in the Mellen
Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 12 noon - 1 p.m. Thursday at the Roberts Funeral Home.
