Loren L. Barngrover, 74, died May 6, 2014 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born on February 7, 1940 in Dodge City to Loren L. and Esther M. (Emrie) Barngrover, Sr.
He grew up on the family farm near Ford and attended Ford schools. Following graduation from high school, he attended Fort Hays State University, graduating in 1962. Following college, Loren returned to work on the family farm with his dad.
On July 7, 1963, Loren married his childhood friend and high school sweetheart, Jacquelyn (Jacque) Hager. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2013. Loren made it known to his friends that Jacque was the love of his life. Loren and Jacque had two children, Loren L. III (Trey) and Ansel Kay.
Loren loved sports. He played high school basketball and football and was the only freshman on the varsity track team. Loren was devoted to his family and loved snow skiing, water skiing, traveling and many other activities with Jacque, his children, and grandchildren.
Always active in his community, Loren was a member of the St. Bernard Chapter of the Masonic Lodge and the Meridian Shrine. He was an Elder and a Deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Dodge City and served on the Farm Bureau Board. Loren never missed a community concert and always looked forward to every Depot Theater play or special event. He was present at most Final Friday for the Arts events. Loren and Jacque supported the Carnegie Center for the Arts, The Depot Theater, and the Boot Hill Association.
Loren is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn Barngrover of Dodge City; mother, Esther of Dodge City; daughter, Ansel of Dodge City; son, Trey and wife Lori of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Estie Mina of Dodge City, Lydia Anne Roslyn, Lenora Marie Deloyce, and Loren Leeson IV all of Shawnee. He was preceded in death by his father, Loren L. Barngrover, Sr. and a sister, Diane.
Funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Dodge City on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. with Barney Korbelik, C.R.E. presiding. Burial will follow at Ford Cemetery in Ford. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 12:00 - 8:00 P.M. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Children's Burn Hospital or Ford County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
