Mrs. Evelyn Adams Koenig Wheeler, 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, Jan. 27, at her home at HeartFields (Assisted Living) of Frederick. The daughter of the late Peyton Lewis Adams, whose family were longtime residents of Buckeystown, MD and Rachel Murphy Adams, Mrs. Wheeler was born on Nov. 15, 1905 in Washington, D.C. Educated in public schools in Washington, and Mount Vernon, N.Y., she married Raymond Koenig, a Washington attorney credentialed to argue before the Supreme Court, in 1926. In the 1920s and '30s, the Koenig family spent many summers at Braddock Heights. Their only child, the late Virginia Koenig Gardner, was born in 1927 and died in 1991. Mrs. Wheeler was widowed in 1942 and married Maj. Richard E. Wheeler of Cambridge, Mass., in 1950. They lived in Chevy Chase, MD until retiring in 1956 to a pre-Revolutionary farm in Kennebunk, Maine, which they restored together over the next 15 years, until Mr. Wheeler's death in 1971.(**Actually 1973) She lived in Kennebunk, Maine at Their wood Place in South Darmouth, Mass., and since 1999 at HeartFields. Mrs. Wheeler was active in the Eastern Star, a gifted cook and amateur painter, an enthusiastic student of English history, and enjoyed extensive travel. She is survived by four grand- children, Sarah Gardner Cunningham of New York, John H.
Gardner and his wife County Commissioner Jan Gardner of Frederick, Eve E. Gardner of York, Pa., and Thomas U. Gardner and his wife Katherine of Carlsbad, Calif.; and by eight greatgrandchildren, Julia and Michael Cunningham of New York, John U., Rachel, and Mallory Gardner of Frederick, and Samuel, Henry and Edward Gardner of Carlsbad. Her loving companions Linda Spizzo and Sonja Godoy also survive her. Mrs. Wheeler was preceded in death by her daughter and by her son-in-law. Dr. John U. Gardner of Dartmouth, Mass., who died in 1999. Donations in Mrs. Wheeler's memory may be made to the Frederick County Public Library, 110 E. Patrick St., Frederick. Md. Services and internment will be private. Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick, M.D
