Colin was born on the 27th October 1892 in Scotstown, Quebec, Canada. He was the son of Malcolm Benjamin MacAulay and Emma Malvira MacAulay (née Bailey). His siblings were Malcolm, Rupert, Emily and Kenneth. After attending McGill University in Montreal, Colin graduated with a Batchelor of Science degree.

 

He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on the 12th April 1915 in the 12th Scottish Rifles before transferring to the 4th South Wales Borderers.

 

He served in the Dardanelles and in Mesopotamia before being killed on the 9th April 1916 in the Battle of Sanna-i-yat in Mesopotamia.

 

Colin has no known grave and so he is commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission on the Basra Memorial.

 

He is also commemorated on the 1914-1918 Roll of Honour at McGill University.
