Corporal Goman was an aerial gunner, and one of ten airmen killed when B-17G Flying Fortress #42-107133 crashed, seven miles east of Rapid City Army Air Base, South Dakota.

As a group of bombers were getting into a
formation after takeoff, for a flight eastward
to head to the European theater of the war,
the B-17, piloted by Lt. Lence, suddenly, for
reasons not determined, nose dived into the
ground from about 2,000 feet elevation.
All aboard were killed.

The nine other Army aviators were:

2nd Lt. Dennis E Lence , pilot
2nd Lt. Donald M Hale
Flt. Off. William C Shinn
2nd Lt. Charles E Terry, Jr
Cpl. Edward L Betz
Cpl. Norris B Evjen
Cpl. Julian Hernandez
