Bobby was drafted into World War II during his senior year at Clay-Battelle High School and was enlisted in the United States Army, where he bravely served his country in Tokyo, Japan, and Honolulu, Hawaii, defending the freedoms we enjoy today.
During Bobby's working days, he worked at various locations doing construction work at coal mines and was a member of UMWA District 31. Following his retirement, Bobby could be found playing cards, working on everyone's old broken lawn mowers, keeping an immaculate garden, mowing his yard, or sitting on his front porch waving at every vehicle that drove by and sharing stories with those who stopped by to visit. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and avidly watched the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers games on TV.
Those Bobby leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, M. Marie Barr Tennant of Daybrook; six daughters and spouses, Cindy Allard and husband Don of Fairmont, Robin Haught of Barrackville, Mandy Greene and companion Marion Fuller of Daybrook, Nancy Statler and husband Sam of Hurricane, Cindy Sanders and husband Mike of Daybrook, and Sally Eddy and husband Fred of Daybrook; grandchildren, Heather Sprenger and husband Matt, Heidi Ude and husband Chris, Whitney Slagle and husband Matt, Ryan, Nicholas and Stephanie Greene, Lauren and Zachary Statler, Levi and Becca Sanders, Robbie Eddy and wife Leslie, and Danielle Wilson and husband Alex; great-grandchildren, Glenna, Isaac, Evelyn, Nathan, Gretchen, Emma, Brock, Kylie, Paige, Alex, Braxton and Callista; two sisters, Joanne Tennant of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Jackie Staten of New Athens, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Those who met Bobby at Heaven's gate, in addition to his parents, include his sisters, Bernice Tennant, Edis Ammons, Georgie Dean, Nellie Presock, Martha Yost and Connie Pollard; one brother, Harold Tennant; and his son-in-law, Fred Haught.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Morgantown's Amedisys Hospice and especially Bobby's nurse, Karen Trump, for her kindness, support, love and compassion in their time of need.
