Actor. He was born in Indiana and died in Woodland Hills (California). He is best remembered as Reverend Sykes in "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962). He also appeared in "The Killers" (1946), "The Far Horizons" (1955), "The Big Knife" (1955) and "Hush... Hush... Sweet Charlotte" (1964). He was married to actress Peggy Cartwright, member of the original 'Our Gang' troupe, in one of the early interracial marriages in Hollywood. She was buried with him.
