He was born Nov. 8, 1949, to Guy Gilbert and Frances (Feek) Gilbert. He grew up and attended school in the Bain City and Leavenworth area.
He joined the Marine Corps in 1968, retiring in 1991 as a master gunnery sergeant.
He was a true believer in living life to the fullest. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by both parents; two sisters, Viola Pyles and Shirley Smathers; and one brother, Larry Gilbert.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Gilbert of the home; two daughters, Candice Jones of Fallbrook, Calif., and Tiffany Johnson of Texas; one son, Edwin Gilbert of Sacramento, Calif.;' nine grandchildren; four sisters, Donna Jeffers of Warsaw, Mo., Dianna Raybern and Wanda Howard (Dean), both of Lawrence, Kan., and Linda Parsons (Richard) of Cabool, Mo.; and two brothers, Robert Gilbert (Beth) of Warsaw, Mo., and Albert Gilbert of Cabool. Mo.
In his honor, a memorial service will be on April 18, 2009, at the VFW in Fallbrook, Calif. Upon his request, he was cremated and buried at sea.
