James Alfano, 24, full-time policeman and sometimes skydiver, rests in Chicago hospital after surviving 7,000 foot fall. He bailed out, fell 5,000 feet in free fall, then pulled ripcord. Parachute failed to open so he pulled emergency chute. Latter became entangled with main chute and he hit the ground with neither fully opened. He walked away.
