Betty Marie (Whitlock) Young, 84,died in Davidson, North Carolina, on Monday, November 25, 2013, of stroke complications and heart disease.Born February 23, 1929, in Owens, Kanawha County,West Virginia, to Helen Marie (Alford) and Charles Whitlock, she attended DuPont High School and graduated in 1946.On May 16, 1946, she married Herbert Marco Young of Clay County, West Virginia.Herbert passed away in 1988.
She will be especially remembered for her kindness and caring of Herbert,her mother, Helen and her sister, Dorothy, during each of their later years of declining health.
She lived most of her life in the Charleston area in the small towns of Pinch, Rand and Quick and worked for the Kanawha County Board of Education until her retirement.
Betty was an avid gardener and cook. She is dearly remembered for her great canned vegetables, the garden and for the wonderful holiday meals at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was an expert caregiver to neighbors and members of her family.
Survivors include her three children, Judith Booth of Davidson,NC, Johnnie L. Young of Charleston, and Ronald G. Young of Beaufort,SC. Betty is also survived by her sister, Alice Pauley of Charleston. She has six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great- grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial were held in private at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, on Sunday, December 01, 2013.
