Glenn was born September 25, 1923 in Clemons, Iowa to John and Marie (Beale) Atkinson. Glenn graduated from Marshalltown High School High School in 1941. He received his Associates Degree from Marshalltown Junior College in 1943. Glenn then served his country in the U.S. Navy obtaining the rank of Ensign. After his service he returned to the U.S. and received his Bachelors of Science in Commerce at the University of Iowa in 1948. He had the responsibility of serving as the treasurer of Delta Chi Fraternity while attending the University of Iowa.
Glenn was united in marriage to Dorothy Kopel on June 15, 1957 in Marshalltown. Glenn was a partner with McGladrey Pullen Accounting Firm, in Marshalltown. He is the co-founder of the Optimist club where he served as the vice president, secretary and treasurer. Glenn was a member of the Iowa Society of CPA's, Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce, and Elmwood Country Club.
Left to cherish Glenn's memory are his wife of 57 year, Dorothy, three children, Mark (Carol) Atkinson of Des Moines, IA, and children; Patrick and Maddie Minnick, Mary Purdy of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and children; Elizabeth and Carter Purdy, Ann (Chris) Muehling of Wichita, KS, and children; Benjamin and Samual Muehling, a sister, Colleen Liming of Janesville, IA,. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
