Maria Louisa's parents, Asahel & Caroline Smith, were among the earliest settlers of Gwinnett County. Asahel served as Postmaster for Lawrenceville as early as 1825 and again in 1846. Asahel & Caroline moved to Floyd County, GA sometime before 1860.

Maria Louisa and her sister Ann Marie are buried together, next to their uncle, Henry Smith.

These graves were skipped in the 2008 survey and were not added to Find A Grave until I recently began having a closer look. It is likely that they were mistaken for the Maria Louisa & Ann Eliza Smith buried nearby. These twin sisters were the daughters of John T. Smith (b. 1802, VT) and Rebecca Smith (b. 1810, GA). Given the proximity of these burials and the fact that all 4 of these girls fathers were born in Vermont, it appears very likely that these pairs of sisters were cousins and their fathers John & Asahel Smith were brothers. However, this evidence is circumstantial and won't easily be proven.
