Obituary in The Shreveport Times October 2, 1985:

SHREVEPORT - Funeral services will be conducted at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel for Harold Joseph Keeler, 74, Friday, October 25. The Rev. Alvin . Oney of Linwood Baptist Church where Mr. Keeler was a member will officiate. Graveside honors will be provided at Centuries Memorial Park by Fifth Signal Battalion, Fifth Infantry Division of Fort Polk.

Mr. Keeler entered into rest on Wednesday, October 23, 1985 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was confirmed in the Lutheran church as a youngster in Pennsylvania and later baptized into the Baptist church. He entered into the U.S. Army in 1936 and retired from Fort Polk La. in 1958 with the rank of master sergeant after almost 22 years of service. He was a member of President Roosevelt's Writing Club. He served as a guard for the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations, Japan, and the United States. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Mae Keeler; four daughters, Marie Hester, Kathryn Adams, Diane Dees, all of Shreveport, and Janie Bobo of Granbury Texas; two sisters, Mickey Melloy and Velma Brauchie; two brothers, Henry Keeler and Victor Eugene Keeler, all of Bethlehem Pa.; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be military from Fort Polk and honorary pallbearers will be the men from Linwood Baptist Church.
