Wyoming Governor. He graduated from Carleton College Minnesota and served as a Major in the U.S. Army Sanitary Corps during World War I. After the war, he graduated from Columbia University in 1920, then served as Superintendent of Schools and president of the North Dakota State Normal School. Relocating to Wyoming, he was president of the National Association of State Universities and president of the University of Wyoming (1922-41). In 1946, he was elected Secretary of State and after the resignation of Governor Lester Hunt, Crane was appointed as a Republican the 20th Governor of Wyoming, serving (1949-51). During his brief term, he supported construction of the Wyoming Home and Hospital for the Aged. After leaving office, he remained active in the field of education until his death.
