Gordon Randall Bourne, 82, Kilmarnock, Va., formerly of Bristol, Tenn., passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, Richmond, Va. He was surrounded by his children. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Katherine (Hammond) Bourne also from Bristol, Tenn. as well as his parents, Charles K and Maude Bourne; along with brothers, Charles Jr. and Allen Bourne. He attended Tennessee High School before serving in the Air Force during the Korean War. Gordon received his undergraduate degree from ETSU and his Master's Degree from UVA. This led to a 33 year career in education teaching Physics and Math in Arlington County, Va. mostly at Washington-Lee High School. He sponsored the National Honor Society and the Physics Club. He is survived by his three children, Michael (Suzanne), and Richard in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Janis (John) Charbeneau of Hartfield, Va. He is also survived by his siblings, Nyra Minnick of Eaton, Ohio, Gene Bourne of Bristol, Tenn., Jimmy (Helen) Bourne of Dayton, Ohio, Buddy (Sharon) Bourne of Atlanta, Ga., and Carol (Roger) Gardin of Signal Mtn, Tenn. He had three grandchildren, Lindsey, Barrett, and Carly; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a Celebration of Life in Bristol at the Stateline Grille Saturday, June 21, 2014, from 1 until 5 p.m. Final resting will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
