Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothea June Barker, age 68, of Clayton will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. from Epworth United Methodist Church in Eufaula. Rev. Jerry Caryl-Gordon will officiate with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing.
Mrs. Barker died Tuesday, May 13, at Medical Center Barbour after a heroic battle with cancer. Born February 19, 1946, Mrs. Barker was the daughter of the late Clyde Octave "Doodle" Taylor and Wilma Nell Shelby Taylor. She and her husband, Doug, had lived in the Clayton area since 1997 coming from Hereford, TX.
She enjoyed the Senior Citizens Center in Clayton. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and loved her church and church family. She was most proud of the change that Jesus Christ had made in her life. Mrs. Barker was a member of the New Hope Support Group and was voted Mrs. Senior Wiregrass 2012.
She loved her family, children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Billy Clyde Taylor.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Barker, Clayton; two daughters and sons in law, Cheri and Kendall Johnson Prairieville, LA., and Joy and Bobby Arnold, Kermit, TX.; six grandchildren, Ryan Barker-Brewer, Jonathon Barker-Brewer, Terrin Landry, Chloe Barker, Callie Johnson, and Taylor Barker; and two great grandchildren, Delainy Barker and Scarlett Landry.
Active pallbearers will be Johnny Spurlock, Phil Reith, Jimmy Scott, and Kendall Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Arnold, Ryan Barker-Brewer, Jonathon Barker-Brewer, Taylor Barker and Billy Clyde Taylor.
Visitation for Mrs. Barker will be held Friday evening, May 16, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Kent Funeral Home in Clayton. The family will also receive friends at Epworth Church one hour prior to services, from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 17.
