Ballerina, Actress. She starred in the film "The Red Shoes" in 1948, inspiring thousands of young girls to study ballet. Born in Dunfermline, Scotland, she began ballet lessons at age 6, was invited to join the Sadler Wells ballet company of London at age 16, and became it's prima ballerina at age 26. She died of undisclosed causes at Oxford, England.
