Michael the husband of Susan J. Succi, the son of Lawrence Succi and Theresa Succi all of Portsmouth New Hampshire enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps on August 18 1966 in Manchester NH. He arrived in Vietnam on November 12 1967 where he was assigned for duty and served with Company A, 11th Engineer Battalion, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
On March 14 Marines began to clear a mine field at the Cam Lo District Headquarters in Northern Quang Tri Province when one was detonated killing three men. One of the casualties was Cpl Succi who detonated the mine as he tried to disarm the device.
