Killed in Philippines
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Remiker, route 2, Two Rivers, parents of Pvt. Remiker, learned from the adjutant general's office last night that their son had been killed May 22 in his first major campaign on Mindanao in the Philippines. A confirming letter will follow, the message said. An infantryman in the 24th Victory division, Pvt. Remiker was drafted Nov. 27, 1944, and sent to Camp Joseph T. Robinson in Arkansas for 17 weeks of basic training. He came home on furlough April 2 and then went to Fort Ord., Calif, from where he embarked for the Philippines. Pvt. Remiker was born in the town of Franklin on Feb. 14, 1925. After attending St. Ann's parochial school at Francis Creek he assisted his father with work on the farm and then entered the employ of the Oriental Milling company.
He is survived by his parents, two sisters, Evelyn and Dolores, one brother, Louis Jr. and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Anna Fogeltanz. A requiem high mass in his memory will be sung at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning by the Rev. Joseph Rauch at St. Ann's church, Francis Creek. Manitowoc Herald Times, Saturday, June 9, 1945 P. 1
