Paul William Baetz was the son of Hermann Baetz and Martha Kroebel, he was born in the village of Hohenthurm, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Today this village is a part of the town of Landsberg. Paul's father Hermann was a quarry master in the Harz Mountains, Uftrungen, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. He was killed as a result of a dynamite explosion, in February of 1905. Paul married 1. Emma Polter, daughter of Richard Polter and Anna Nadeke, about 1924, in Germany. Paul and Emma were the parents of two children, a daughter Elsie [m. NN Baumgardner] and a daughter Helen [m. NN Anderson]. Paul and Emma and their daughter Elsie, and Paul's mother, Martha Baetz, emigrated from the Port of Bremen, Germany, aboard the ship Lutzow, and arrived at the Port of New York on 2 December 1925, and settled in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Paul was a machinist by trade. After the death of Emma, Paul married 2. Lillian A. Kline, on 22 June 1935. Paul and Lillian had a daughter Louise Carolyn Baetz born 10 November 1937, Louise died some time before the 1940 census as she is not recorded with the family ~
