Major League Baseball Player. For six seasons (1953 to 1956 and 1958 to 1959), he played in the outfield with the New York Yankees, Philadelphia/Kansas City Athletics and Boston Red Sox. Born William Beneditto Renna, he served as a dive bomber with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Upon his return home, he distinguished himself as a fullback and center, in addition to an outfielder for the University of Santa Clara's football and baseball teams. Signed by the Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1949. He marked his Major League debut on April 14, 1953 and recorded a .314 in 61 games-played with the Yankees' squad that went on to win the World Series. The following year (1954), he produced a career-high 98 hits with the Athletics. In 370 regular season games, Renna compiled 219 hits with a .239 lifetime batting average. After retiring from baseball, he worked in the concrete supply business.
