MR. E. R. BARNES DIES SAT. NIGHT
Services were held at Bruce Baptist Church Monday morning for Ernest Ralph Barnes, 69. Mr. Barnes died in the Calhoun County Hospital Saturday night after a short illness, although he had been in poor health since a stroke several years ago.
Services were conducted by his pastor and former pastor, Rev. S. M. Brown and Rev. C. C. Rogers. Interment followed in the Popular Springs Cemetery with Cook Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Born in Calhoun County, Oct 16, 1889, the son of Henry Barnes and Nancy Clark Barnes, the deceased had lived in the county all his life. He had lived in Bruce for the past 16 years and was an employee of E. L. Bruce Co., before ill health forced his retirement.
Mr. Barnes accepted his illness with patience and fortitude.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Icy Belle Jones Barnes; three sons John H. Barnes, Bruce, Ernest H. Barnes, Greenwood and D. J. Barnes, Canton; four daughters, Mrs. J. W. Cleveland, Ferriday, La., Mrs. Sue French, Union, Mrs. James Long, Jackson, and Mrs. Ruth Wilson, Memphis; a brother, Jim Barnes, Bruce Rt. 1; a sister Mrs. Geo. Jenkins, Bruce Rt. 1; 12 grandchildren and four great granchildren.
