Original birth notes(other familial) has him as H. Benjamin Stroot.
Other sources also spell his name Benard or Bernhard; but his given nickname was more casually known as Ben Stroot in Quincy; and aka, Barney Stroot upon his passing in Calif.

Alternate birth year sourced as 1887; although not likely, as a brother, John C was born in May of that year.

Mary Agatha Koetters on Nov 19, 1909; in Chicago(residence of her parents). She died young at the age of 35 on Oct 14, 1922.

As of the 1930 census, Ben was living as a widower father in Los Angeles with two of Mary's sisters who helped raise his children.

"BARNEY STROOT, 75, FORMER QUINCYAN, DIES IN CALIFORNIA"

"Barney Stroot, 75, a former well known resident of Quincy, died Friday night in Redondo Beach, Cal., after an illness of six weeks. He was a retired employee of the Los Angeles Power & Light Company.

Mr Stroot was born in Quincy Oct 18, 1887[1886], a son of John and Wilhemina Ninteman Stroot, and attended Quincy schools. His wife, the former Mary Koetters, died in 1922.

Mr Stroot was a member of the Quincy fire department 11 years serving during the administrations of former Mayors Philip O'Brien, W.B. Smiley and Frank Casper. His last visit here was in 1952, a year after he retired. He went to California in 1926.

Surviving are four children, Mrs David (Bertha) Blausey of Redondo Beach, Mrs Ernie (Leona) Kelly of Downey, Cal., Charles Stroot of Los Alamitos, Cal. There are 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Surviving also are two brothers, Henry and Clem Stroot of Quincy. Funeral services will be held in Redondo Beach."
