GIMBLIN, Mary
Born in Roseville, CA December 15, 1915. Passed away January 3, 2009. Mary was known as Mimi to her close family members. She was first generation Greek American, born to Peter Kerhoulas and Georgia Triantos. Her parents emigrated in the early 1900's from Greece and settled in Roseville, CA where her father worked for the railroad and her mother raised a family, with Mimi being the youngest of six children.

Mary learned early on how to succeed in the big city (Sacramento) with the help of her brother-in-law Gust Demas. He taught her bookkeeping skills, which would later help her in her banking career with Bank of America. First as a teller in Sacramento, and as an officer in San Francisco. She prided herself in what A.P. Giannini, the founder of Bank of America, had said about saving money and investing in the future, a skill and philosophy she instilled in all of her loved ones.

After she retired, she returned to Sacramento and prided herself in being the wife of Earl Gimblin, who she referred to as the love of her life. Together they had fifteen wonderful years. They were able to travel and enjoyed a rather quiet life together. Mary was always the consummate care giver, providing Earl with good food (proper diet) and a trouble free daily life. She would often say "a good man is hard to find, and I had the best!"

After her husband died, life was never the same for her, but she once again found a way to continue her life in a productive way. She turned her attention to her nephew Harry and guided him through sickness to health. She truly thought of him as her son and was most complete when he shared his summers with her. They were like two peas in a pod as they drove all over town together. Mimi always had places to go and people to see, as she exhausted everyone she was with.

She devoted her last years to her grand niece and god daughter, Alyssa and her children Daniel, Emily, and Mathew. Not a day went by that she wasn't talking about this little family and what she could do for them. They made her life enriching and full.

At least twice a week her dinner mates Christopher, JoAnne, and Jim would take her out to eat. Most often Mimi would order a child's plate, embarrassing her dinner companions. After many such requests, her dinner mates accepted her request for a child's plate, philosophizing that at 93 years old, you can order anything you want.

At family gatherings she was known as the three bean salad queen and spanakopeta expert. And no one could make a better rice pudding or birthday cake with such love as she did for her family.

Mary is survived by her sister-in-law Bess Kerhoulas, nephew Harry Demas, niece JoAnne Horrell, grand niece and god daughter Alyssa (Kiet), Christopher and John (Pia) Horrell, Peter Hasapis (Van), George Hasapis (Ruth), Bobby Hasapis (Mary), Jamie Hasapis, Teddy Harris (Cheryl), Mary Harris, Peter Kerhoulas (Barbara), Susan Kerhoulas, Joanne Weber, Tom Truselo, Arlene Agalos, Martha Blaylock (Dave), and numerous grand nieces and grand nephews and great grand nephews and nieces, Daniel, Mathew, and Emily. Also survived by her deceased husband's four children, Cathy Wilson (George), Kim Gimblin, Nancy Gimblin, and Jean Gimblin.
