Margaret Anne Fickle Pierson, born 1830 to Isaac and Eliza (Tipton) Fickle in Marion County Ohio. She was the third of six children. Married to Thomas Pierson in Marion Ohio in 1850. The family relocated to Iroquois County, Illinois where Thomas farmed. Following Thomas' election to Iroquois County Sheriff, Margaret worked as a cook in the Iroquois County Jail. Margaret continued to perform as cook in the jail after her husband retired and their son her eldest son John was elected as county sheriff. It was the custom in those days that the Sheriff's wife prepare the meals for the inmates. As John was unmarried, his mother happily performed the task. Upon John's end of term of office, Margaret and her youngest daughter removed to Chicago, joining Thomas Pierson in 1882. In addition to her children, she was survived by her sister Cordelia Fickle Rice. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Mary Fickle Harvey, Sarah Fickle Drake, Louisa Fickle Johnson, Mariah Fickle Ruel and brothers Stewart and Eliot Fickle. Mrs. Pierson died at her home at 3446 Dearborn Street (1893 street numbering). Her Funeral was held at her home and burial was held Saturday, August 5, 1893.
