US Congressman. Educated at the University of Virginia, he engaged in agricultural pursuits in Kentucky and was chairman of the Scott County Democratic committee in 1895. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, 1897, 99) and served in the Kentucky State Senate, (1901-05). He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1904 and president of the American Society of Equity for Kentucky, an organization of farmers, in 1908. In 1909, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-first Congress and to the next seven succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 53.
